Description

• Due to maternity leave, we are currently seeking a Duty Compliance Accountant to work from our finance office in Manchester. • The purpose of the role is to ensure that the company’s UK customs and excise liabilities are accounted for accurately in the general ledger, and that movements of excise goods are operated in compliance with HMRC guidance. • Part of a small team with broad scope of responsibilities, this role is unique in that it crosses the middle ground between the operational and accounting teams. • With a dual month-end, this ensures that both HMRC and the wider finance teams are provided with fully supported numbers to satisfy the monthly excise and import duty payments at the end of each duty period, as well as a balance sheet and P&L at the end of the accounting period.

Requirements

• This role would suit someone looking to close off their accounting qualifications whilst also looking to get closer to the operational side of the business. • Familiarity with various excise duty notices, which form the parameters in which the company can operate when moving fuel into and around the UK. • Responsibility for the review, consolidation and preparation of monthly excise duty liability, circa £400m pm. • Ensuring the accurate accounting of customs and excise duty liabilities in the general ledger in accordance with business timetable. • Forecasting of excise duty gains and losses from temperature fluctuations and vapour recovery at UK terminals – reporting to the Group Financial Controller on variances to budget. • Ensuring that Greenergy’s core UK terminal activity operates within HMRC guidelines and that all stock terminals have appropriate licenses to cover operational activity. • Managing the excise duty deferment limits with UK terminals to ensure no interruption to fuel supply. • Ensuring any operational changes to the business are understood from a tax perspective, communicated and appropriate actions taken to ensure accurate reporting and compliance. • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with all excise duty stakeholders across the business. • Engaging with HMRC and speaking with authority on customs and excise matters with our local agents.
